  • Probably our favourite meal during our stay at Kawaguchiko, even moreso than our ryokan's dinner. We got the Chicken Hoto (1500yen) which was warm, rich, flavourful, and so comforting on a cold day. Chock full of proteins and veges, we really enjoyed this hearty noodle soup. Pair this with the Mini Don (430yen) and you have an amazing meal. Don't forget to add their spicy pepper which gave it another dimension of flavour. We finished off with their Shingen Mochi (690yen) which was also delicious. Definitely highly recommended!

  • The hoto was amazing. Warm, rich and full of flavor. The handmade noodles were delicious and you can really tell they were artisanal. The croquette was also very good. A perfect and comforting meal.

  • We came here based on reviews, and it did not disappoint! The food was delicious, especially the kimchi soup. The portions were generous and well worth the price. The view from the restaurant was stunning—you can see Mount Fuji very clearly. The restaurant is quite spacious, making it great for families and large groups. The restrooms were clean, and you can take a queue ticket yourself at the entrance, which is very convenient. The staff provided great service. If we’re in the area again, we’ll definitely come back!

  • Came to Hotokura Funari primarily because it was near where we stayed (Noborisaka) and didn't regret one bit in terms of the food. Although if we came here for lunch we might have seen the Fuji view. Ordered the chicken and pork versions, along with the horse sashimi and a bottle of the fuji beer. Portions are quite huge for individual. Taste wise - the hoto noodles (thick, flat wheat noodles) felt a bit like knife-cut noodles in China/Korea, but the miso-based soup along with the squash were where all the flavours are in. Squash and vegetables were cooked well, not a mushy mess but sufficiently soft enough. Initially, the waiter told us that the horse sashimi was out. After a few to and fro by him from the kitchen to our table (was quite confused by him myself), he suddenly came back with a plate which was quite a delight. The horse meat is very lean and a little tougher than beef, slightly stringy but has no gamey taste to it. Definitely a must try. Ordered a fuji beer since we were in the area, the ale was fruity but not very light, and went well with the horse sashimi surprisingly.

  • I recently visited Hotokura Funari Kawaguchiko with my family and while the menu options were somewhat limited, the experience was still worthwhile. The highlight was definitely the stunning view of Mt. Fuji — absolutely breathtaking and a perfect backdrop for a meal. The food itself was decent, not particularly memorable but satisfying enough after a day of exploring. The hoto noodles were hearty and comforting. The restaurant is quite popular, so be prepared to queue for a bit, especially during peak hours. The interior has a warm, traditional feel, adding to the overall atmosphere. The staff were polite but seemed a bit rushed, likely due to the crowd. If you’re looking to enjoy a meal with a great view of Mt. Fuji, it’s worth a visit.

  • Tried the famous houtou near Mt. Fuji, no wonder it’s loved by the locals! The thick, chewy noodles and rich broth hit the spot, but the surprise star was the squash — it really elevated the whole dish with its subtle sweetness. Would’ve been even more special if Mt. Fuji decided to show up, but still such a cozy and satisfying experience.

  • We had such a wonderful lunch here with an amazing view of Mount Fuji. The houtou was hearty, comforting. The broth was rich and flavourful, packed with so many vegetables, and the noodles were thick and chewy. We ordered the pork houtou and it was so satisfying — perfect cold-weather comfort food. Loved that we could enjoy such a traditional local dish while looking out at the beautiful scenery. A must-try if you’re visiting Kawaguchiko and want something warm, wholesome and delicious.
